In the spirit of the holiday season, First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) collaborated with Aiea Collision Center to gift a refurbished 2019 Nissan Sentra to a single mother identified by Helping Hands Hawaiʻi’s Adopt A Family Program.

This is the eighth consecutive year FICOH and community partners have donated a car to assist a family experiencing transportation challenges. FICOH donated the salvaged car, Aiea Collision Center donated their labor and materials, and New City Nissan donated the parts.

Representatives from FICOH, Helping Hands Hawaiʻi, Aiea Collision Center, and Domestic Violence Action Center and other supporters gathered for the handover of the keys and to offer the recipient their well wishes. The single mother, who is in the process of rebuilding her life after an abusive relationship, wrote in her application to Helping Hands Hawaiʻi, “Our holiday miracle is to have a car and be financially stable so we can be happy and celebrate together.”

“We want to thank Helping Hands Hawaiʻi for their continued partnership and our friends at Aiea Collision Center for helping to make this family’s holiday wish come true,” said Todd Takayama, FICOH president and chief executive officer. “It is an honor to be able to make a positive impact in this family’s life. We hope this donation will bring joy and ease to their daily lives.”

“We appreciate FICOH and their partners for the generosity they show to families every year,” said Kristine Garabiles, program manager, Helping Hands Hawaiʻi. “This year’s recipient asked us to convey her deep gratitude. For her and her family, having access to reliable transportation represents an important step toward stability and financial independence.”
