First Insurance Company of Hawaii Appoints 3 New Vice Presidents

First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) has appointed three new vice presidents: Jeff Grimmer, Vice President, Finance Operations and Administration; Nina Ota, Vice President, Personal Lines; and Janis Kushimi, Vice President, Human Resources.

Jeff Grimmer joined FICOH in 2006 as an Actuary. He was promoted to Managing Actuary in 2010 and to Assistant Vice President in 2013. In addition to serving as FICOH’s Treasurer, he oversees First Insurance’s actuarial services, financial analysis, enterprise risk management, and corporate accounting functions. Grimmer is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), regarded as one of the premier designations in the property and casualty insurance industry.

Nina Ota began her career at FICOH in 1998 as a career trainee and over the next 10 years held positions in several departments including Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, IT, and the Project Consulting Group. She was appointed Assistant Vice President of Agency Relations in 2013. In 2014 she assumed leadership responsibility for our Personal Lines department, which includes Underwriting, Billing and Customer Service units.


Janis Kushimi has more than 20 years of HR experience in Hawaii. Prior to joining FICOH in May 2013 as HR manager, she served as director of corporate human resources at The Queen’s Health Systems. She was appointed Assistant Vice President in 2014 in recognition of the solid relationships she built throughout the company and with our fellow Tokio Marine North America group companies. Kushimi is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
