First Insurance Company of Hawaii Appoints Nina Ota Assistant Vice President

First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) has appointed Nina Ota assistant vice president of agency relations. Ota’s responsibilities include managing FICOH’s relationship with its statewide independent agency network and overseeing agency-facing aspects of FICOH’s systems initiatives.

Ota began her career at FICOH in 1998 as a career trainee and over the next 10 years held positions in several departments including Personal Lines, Commercial Lines, IT, and the Project Consulting Group. In 2009, she became FICOH’s manager of agency relations.

“In the past four years, Nina has stepped up to the demands of a large and expanding role and demonstrated a firm commitment to helping FICOH and our agency customers grow together,” said Allen Uyeda, First Insurance president and CEO. “Her in-depth understanding of our business, analytical mindset, problem-solving skills and leadership will be major assets to our officer team.”

Ota graduated from University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in economics and earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii. She currently serves as president of the Underwriters Association of Hawaii, a non-profit organization that promotes ongoing education and interaction between members of Hawaii’s insurance industry.
