HONOLULU – As local nonprofits mobilize support for Hawaii’s growing community needs, First Insurance Company of Hawaii, Ltd. (FICOH) has donated $58,000 to Aloha United Way (AUW). The amount represents a corporate contribution combined with fundraising event proceeds and associate donations to FICOH’s annual e-pledge drive.

With needs in the community at an all-time high due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FICOH associates responded with a 27% increase in e-pledges in 2020 compared to 2019.

“We’re thankful to our associates for their generous support of FICOH’s annual AUW campaign and for all the ways they stepped forward to make a difference during an immensely challenging year for our community,” said Jeff Shonka, FICOH president and CEO. “FICOH is proud to continue its support of AUW and their partner agencies, whose work has been invaluable in helping struggling local residents weather the ongoing health and economic crisis.”

FICOH’s AUW committee rose to the challenge when COVID-19 restricted in-person events, developing creative fundraising campaigns that associates could safely participate in from home or in the office, including a virtual FICOH Blackjack event, an online auction featuring items donated by our associates, sweet and salty treat sales, and more.

“On behalf of Aloha United Way, we want to thank everyone at First Insurance Company of Hawaii for their loyal support over the past 31 years,” said Malia Lau, AUW Business Development Manager. “We appreciate the enthusiasm and creativity they brought to their 2020 fundraising efforts and the overwhelming support of their associates.”
